BCAEd 123 - Analysis and Critical Understanding of the Visual Arts, a three-unit writing course that seeks to deepen and enhance the knowledge through an interdisciplinary approach in studying the visual arts. It employs discursive teaching modules to enable the student to hone aesthetic awareness, artistic literacy, reflexive thinking, and develop an understanding of critical perspectives in looking at and critiquing visual art forms.
This course will be set as an introductory of the description, interpretation, and evaluation of visual arts as practiced in the field of art criticism. Both postmodern and traditional critical approaches will be considered in the emphasis on contemporary art criticism. Students are required to read a range of art critics and write several examples of art criticism through virtual observation of artworks.
