Contains all the fourth year CE subjects offered during the first semester

This course introduces the principles and design of foundation systems, starting with a review of key soil mechanics concepts, including classification, seepage, effective stress, consolidation, and shear strength. It covers subsurface exploration methods, geotechnical reporting, and foundation selection based on applied loads and code requirements.

Topics include the analysis and design of shallow and deep foundations, focusing on bearing capacity, settlement, and field evaluation. The course also covers lateral earth pressures, retaining structures, and braced excavations.

This course introduces the fundamental principles and practical applications of rock mechanics in geotechnical engineering. It covers rock material and rock mass behavior, geotechnical investigation methods, stress and failure analysis, rock slope stability, foundations on rocks, and ground improvement techniques. Emphasis is placed on both theoretical understanding and engineering applications through laboratory testing, field methods, case studies, and design projects.

This course deals on the principles and fundamentals of the law on obligations, contracts and professional ethics that are applicable to the civil engineering profession. It is designed to prepare civil engineering students for professional practice. Topics on the perspective of the students as future practitioners, contractors, and employees in the field are also given emphasis. They include the study of code of ethics, legal procedure in the practice of civil engineering in the Philippines, ethical relations of an engineer with fellow professionals, clients, and general public, elements of contracts, obligations, Civil Engineering Law (RA 544), National Building Code of the Philippines, Labor Law, E-Procurement Law, and the Manual of Professional; Practice for Civil Engineers.
