Virtually, everything we do is influenced by microorganisms and their activity in the soil. Therefore, the knowledge of soil microbiology is essential to understanding agricultural and environmental science.  This course provides a fundamental understanding of the microbial population in the soils and the interactions among microbes in the ecosystem. Further, this also provides knowledge about microorganism's role and influence on native soil fertility and on the degradation of pollutants.

Soil 110 is intended for students in degree programs that require only one soils course. Being so, it is designed to be a “one soils course that has it all”. It is then expected that the topics covered in this course are quite substantial – cutting across all specializations in the wonderful world of Soil Science.
